Very pretty 'The Caughley Mask-Head Jug', reproduced by Coalport in 1979 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the company's takeover of the Caughley factory in 1779.
Crafted in fine bone china, this elegant jug features a beautifully embossed design accented with delicate pink and blue floral sprigs and foliage. The distinctive mask-head spout, a hallmark of the original design, adds charm and character, while gilt decoration enhances the rim, lip, handle, and base. The ornate handle is finished with attractive scroll and curl detailing.
The base bears a clear and detailed 1979 commemorative backstamp. Larger than the standard 12.5 cm version, this example is particularly desirable to collectors.
Originally produced at Caughley around 1770, the Mask-Head Jug became one of the factory's most recognisable designs. Coalport continued production after acquiring the factory and later issued this special reproduction to mark the bicentenary in 1979.
The jug is in excellent condition, with no cracks, chips, or crazing. The gilt decoration remains bright and intact. Please refer to the photographs for further details.
