A stunning pair of Victorian opaline glass baluster vases, dating from approximately 1850–1900, beautifully capturing the elegance and refinement of a bygone era.
Crafted from delicate mint green opaline glass, these impressive vases showcase the ethereal, translucent quality for which opaline glass is so highly prized. Each vase is exquisitely hand-painted with graceful iris flowers in shades of pink and yellow, complemented by delicate white daisies and detailed foliage. The decoration displays the skill and artistry associated with Victorian glassmakers, creating a striking and decorative statement.
Although unsigned and unmarked, these vases are a fine example of Victorian craftsmanship. Traces of the original gilding remain around the rims and bases, offering a glimpse of their former splendour and adding to their antique charm.
Despite their age, both vases are in good antique condition. The glass is free from cracks and chips, preserving their elegant form. There is some minor nibbling around the rims, consistent with age and use. The hand-painted decoration remains bright and attractive, with some expected fading to the leaves and stems and a few small areas of paint loss around the flowers.
