This charming pair of porcelain figurines hails from Saxony, Germany, and was produced by the renowned Conta & Boeheme between 1870 and 1890. These exquisite pieces are marked with the Shield with arm and dagger indented stamp, along with the numbers 1429 and 161. Additionally, the numbers 25 and 114 are hand-painted, adding a personal touch to these historical artifacts.
The shepherd figurine is beautifully hand-painted in blue on a white porcelain glaze, exuding a classic elegance. Gold trimmings adorn the horn and the accompanying dog's nose, adding a touch of sophistication. Despite its age, the figurine remains in good antique condition, with no chips or nibbles. However, it does feature a crack on the back of the base, a hairline fracture on the staff, and a minor manufacturing fault on the wrist. These imperfections lend character and testify to its storied past.
The shepherdess is delicately painted with simple blue flowers on her dress and a feather on her hat, reflecting the same meticulous attention to detail. Both figurines' facial features are well-preserved, and with no cracks, chips, or nibbles, showcasing the high-quality craftsmanship of the era.
Both figurines are in excellent condition for their age, approximately 155 years old. While they bear minor signs of wear, their beauty and historical value remain undiminished.
These lovely figurines make a perfect vintage gift for any occasion, offering a glimpse into the art and culture of 19th-century Saxony. Ideal for a shabby chic corner or as standout pieces in a modern setting, they bring a touch of elegance and history to any space. Whether displayed together or separately, this shepherd and shepherdess duo will captivate and charm admirers with their timeless appeal.
